We’re all for optimism but going overboard with it is a different story altogether.

While you already know the National Award winners which were announced this morning, what you don’t know are the remaining entries that were competing for the honours.

Believe it or not, Anurag Kashyap and his Phantom boys courageously sent Bombay Velvet to the National Awards committee. That wasn’t the only entry from Team Phantom. They even submitted Shaandaar – yep, the same film that was panned universally – and Hunterr.

The cold response to Bangistan did not deter producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani from thinking that it was worthy of a National Award. Ditto R Balki’s Shamitabh.

Even films as obscure as Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho, Chauthi Koot, Toba Tek Singh, Mumbai Central and Nil Battey Sannata tried their luck.

Out of 308 films, the top honours have gone to six of Bollywood’s best movies of 2015 – Piku, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Bajirao Mastani, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Masaan. Thank God for that!
